Laptop In-car...? Empty Laptop In-car...?

Post  Random Hero Wed Jan 11, 2012 7:16 am

Hey guys, been wondering if theres a way to 'mount' a laptop in a car? Not looking to fiberglass the dash or anything, just wondering if theres a bracket or support you can use which allows both the driver and passenger to access the laptop.

Ive seen some stands that bolt into the passengers seat floor-mounts, but i dunno.

Once again Illegal, however, have a look at the cop cars and see where they mount them to...

If the drver can access it, yes.

If it's bright enough to distract other drivers, yes.

I'd mount it under the seats and just get a touchscreen and mount it to the dash.

yeah unfortunately i've seen guys fined even for the passenger using a laptop while the car's driving... BUT that car was absolutely raped while doing lapps of chapel st... so they were really going to fine him for everything they could... i couldn't really see a huge issue if it's aimed more for passenger use, and kept sittng rather low...

i'd have a look into what taxi drivers mount their systems to, or more specifically, what your local RACV guy uses, as our local guy has a telescopic floor mounted system that swings around and drops down etc...

yeah I was just looking at alternatives to getting a double-din screen. last one didnt go so well, didnt fit properly and scratched the dash up pretty bad.

well that has less to do with using a double din screen, and more to do with the install and installer...

nop. youre wrong. the corolla has a lip on the console that comes out from where the headunit goes, and the headunit used to tilt out, but the lip stopped it from tilting, so when it tried to flip out to put a cd in it scratched the dash...

just because i love being told i'm wrong...

we had an alpine w502 double din in the exact same model corolla as yours (except the hatch, not sedan but the dash is the same), along with 7,000rms and 4x 15"s in a drop in setup,

i'm telling you right now, if a double din is hitting anything when opening or closing, then it needs to be installed PROPERLY, as any clearance issues is a result of the install...

im telling you right now, it wasnt an alpine w502, I could hardly fit the aircon trim over it, so in fear of breaking something, i send it to WOW and the guys there even said they wont do it unless i sign a waver saying if they break something theyre not gonna be held reliable.

the headunit was such a dodgey fit i ended up giving up and putting my pionner back in.

what unit was it...?

and sending it to WOW doesn't constitute a proper installation, might as well take it to any strathfield/JBhifi/Autobarn and try your lucky.... when i say a proper installation i mean someone who knows what they're doing, whether it be somewhere like FHRX studios, or at least someone who know's what they're doing, not someone who SAYS they know what they're doing...

more cars are damaged by amatures butchering facia's trying to get something in the hard way than i'd even care to think about... if you want a double din, go for it, and do it properly, if you realy don't want to go down that path you could always go with a single fold out... MANY things easier than a laptop...

yeah, well truth is, WOW, JB , Autobarn etc. are the closest thing to a ''profesional'' install as you would find here unless you know someone personally who could do it...

And it was a Pyle PLDN73I... which explains a bit. haha

well i guess when you buy cheap nasty ebay crap and then get it installed at places like WOW you should really expect things like that...

the real answer is t5o spend real money, on real equipment, and get it installed by real installers...

car audio isn't cheap, it's a damn expensive hobby, but hen you cut corners, it costs you twice as much...
