The Falcoon Wagon!

Post  TheyDontWantMusic on Sat Jan 07, 2012 11:41 am

So far, has two layers of sound deadened roof, front doors inner and outer skin, and tailgate the same...

Also, front speakers have been upgraded to Venom splits! running off a Pioneer headunit.

sub stage? actually haven't decided yet..

I reckon its pretty similar to dynamat in stickability, and application, the only thing thats difficult to test is reliability, so maybe it'll fall off before dynamat does?

It shouldn't smell, should it? Dynamat doesn't, nor does this? at least not noticeably.

Louder than it was.

before deadening, it barely did 139dB, after it nearly does 141's Wink
so, I'm happy with that.

P.S. shut up John.

Problem is, it should have done nearly 142's :p
which is what Marvey is on about, as his same model wagon, same gear... is 0.8 - 1dB louder...

Box design? Different power even if its the same amp some can make different rms than an identical amp etc. So many factors.

extended the sub wires about 2 metres, all audio gear was originally installed in Johns car.

put the box in my car, metered, put the box back in Johns car, metered, put the box back in my car again, metered.

same amp, sub, box, headunit, volume, air temp, altitude, batteries, power cables, speaker cable, MP3 file, box location... cant think of anything else :p

variation with the metal thickness, it's joins to one another and roof bracing etc... everything the adds together to create the resonant frequency of the car, maybe John's is peaking closer to tuning...? maybe due to the fact that Johns has had a system in it for a while, the joins between panels have loosened, altering the resonant frequency slightly and allowing the car to breathe better..?

we've all seen CRX's, with identical installs peaking at different frequencies...

remember Johns had systems in his, where as yours in a virgin car... ad like most virgins, just needs some time to get loose enough for the real fun to start...

yeah, thats true.

I'm not really fussed.

the single 15inch sub we used was getting about 300watts.

141 - 142 from 300watts is pretty good either way.

will be interesting to see what happens with more power, as my car used to be 3dB down from Johns with ~2000watts.

I also have more deadening, two layers on the roof, and it sounds a lot deader than his when tapping on it, Plus I deadened the tailgate, when Johns hasn't been done.

Remember reducing flex etc sometimes can have negative effects on your scores to.

the roof NEEDED deadening, it gained 2dB by doing it, perhaps it only needed 1 layer? lol

the roof would flex probably 20mm peak to peak bounce
